This late season local derby had much less riding on it than in recent years, with the teams at polar ends of the league and their placings for the forthcoming league split already fairly settled. However, there is always local pride to battle for when these teams meet!

 

The opening quarter was a fairly dire affair, with Penicuik’s very limited game plan successful in stifling any attempts by the visitors to open up the match, not helped by a miss-firing Dalkeith line out and messy scrums. However, Davidson was unlucky not to get more out of a blind side break as his support was slow to provide assistance, allowing the Penicuik defence to ultimately clear their lines.

After no competitive fixtures for several weeks Dalkeith were looking forward to this New Year league match against Border rivals Gala YM.

 

The home side made a great start pressuring the visitors in their 22 and after a devastating scrum gives Dalkeith a penalty, the ball is taken on by Reid who crashes through the defence and over for the opening score, converted by Clugston 7-0.

The wet weather weather is forecast to relent and with strong winds and fair weather we hope at least one of the pitches will be playable tomorrow for the Youngies v Oldies and Married v Singles, so at this point everythig is still on! Dalkeith faced Dunbar in the semi final of the Edinburgh Bowl Competition, but were still reeling from a huge injury and unavailability list, that had hampered their performances in recent weeks.
